Licensure Renewal Extended for Consultants and Technicians

LICENSURE RENEWALS EXTENDED

Florida Surgeon General Scott Rivkees issued Emergency Order DOH No. 20-015 that extended licensure renewal deadlines to March 31, 2021.  This primarily will affect pharmacy technicians and pharmacist consultants that are due to renew at the end of this month. This order, driven primarily by the ongoing public health emergency, will provide a 3 month’s grace period.  Prescription department managers are encouraged to verify the registration status of pharmacy technicians.  We learned a few weeks ago that there were a substantial number of technician who have yet to renew their registrations.

The emergency order also includes removal of the option for the parent or guardian of a child to refuse to have the child immunization records  included in the state’s immunization registry (See F.S. 381.003 (1) (e) 2 and 3).  That action also suspends a law that would allow a college or university student health center or clinic in Florida to refuse to be included in the immunization registry.  Pharmacy providers should make sure that immunizations provided to children and adults have been recorded in Florida Shots.

With Kindest Regards
